AO Reaches General Practitioners Through Study Clubs

As part of its ongoing outreach efforts, the Academy of Osseointegration (AO) continues to engage clinicians through both academic and professional channels. One recent example took place at the Chesapeake Implant Study Club in Annapolis, Maryland, where Dr. Mehrdad Favagehi spoke during a regularly scheduled meeting and represented AO.

While the presentation was not part of an official AO event, it provided an opportunity to share information about the upcoming AO Annual Meeting and to connect directly with study club members. This type of engagement reflects a broader AO outreach strategy aimed at increasing awareness of the organization and encouraging participation in its educational programs.

AO’s outreach efforts include long-standing university outreach programs led by the Membership Committee. These initiatives focus on engaging students and residents at academic institutions and have been covered in previous newsletter issues. In addition to these programs, AO has developed a separate outreach effort focused on practicing clinicians through the General Practitioner Task Force.

The GP Task Force, chaired by Dr. Douglass Domplowski, has concentrated on outreach to implant-focused study clubs throughout the Northeast region. This initiative is designed to promote participation in the AO Annual Meeting by connecting with general practitioners in established professional learning environments.

As part of this outreach, AO has engaged with several regional study clubs and educational programs in the past year, including the Delaware Valley Academy of Osseointegration Study Club in Philadelphia, the Midwest Implant Institute in Columbus, Ohio, the VCU Implant Symposium in Richmond, Virginia, and the forementioned Chesapeake Implant Study Club in Annapolis, MD.

Together, AO’s university outreach programs and the GP Task Force study club initiative reflect complementary approaches to professional engagement.
