Fostering the highest standards of research and education

Both the Academy of Osseointegration (AO) and the Osseointegration Foundation (OF) foster the highest standards of research and education of practitioners, who in turn, use this research and education to enrich their patients’ lives and enhance their students’ knowledge and skills. Support of the OF is essential for the continuation of existing research grant programs and to enable new programs to be launched.

Thousands of patients have already benefited from treatment by the Academy’s membership, which consists of more than 6,000 individuals in 70 countries, representing the most highly trained professionals providing craniofacial implant treatment, as will many more from the foundation’s charitable programs. AO/OF Research Grants

Dental professionals pursuing groundbreaking dental implant research may be eligible for as much as $50,000 in research grants. Applications that address areas of research to enhance the public acceptance of implants are encouraged. To qualify, research grant proposals must be submitted by an AO member, faculty member or student who conducts research in any academic dental institution (at least one person on the research team must be an AO member).

OF Charitable Grants

The Charitable Grant Program provides financial assistance (up to $10,000) to improve the quality of life for those who have been diagnosed with a lifetime dental deficit or suffered from severe dental trauma and are unable to receive needed dental therapy due to economic restraints.

The OF Charitable Grant is only available to AO member dental professionals. Patients cannot apply for this grant.

Student Travel Grant

Twenty-five $1,000 Student Travel Grants will be awarded to the recipients of the top scoring Oral Research and ePoster abstracts submitted for each AO Annual Meeting. The grant is to be allocated toward travel expenses related to attending the AO Annual Meeting, including airfare, hotel and ground transportation.

AO Scientific Research Highlights

The core principles of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO) are to facilitate the exchange of new technologies, emerging trends and research in the fields of implant dentistry and tissue engineering. Consistent with our mission, AO is pleased to provide this central research hub to highlight outstanding contributions to the field of implant dentistry.

Nobel Biocare Brånemark Osseointegration Award

This award is given annually by the Osseointegration Foundation to honor an individual’s impact on, and leadership in, the field of implant dentistry in any or all of the Foundation’s mission categories: research, education or charitable causes.

Titanium Society

The Titanium Society serves as an advisory committee to the OF Board of Directors and represents some of the most highly respected professionals in the field of implant dentistry. Each year, members of the Titanium Society are invited to attend a special presentation at the Academy of Osseointegration’s Annual Meeting by that year’s recipient of the Nobel Biocare Brånemark Osseointegration Award.
