The Academy recognizes that successful dental careers begin with an added measure of education, training and networking.
Student membership offers many advantages.
There are tangible benefits in affiliating with internationally acclaimed scientists, researchers and renowned practitioners – all offering ground-breaking, innovative treatment approaches and introductions to cutting-edge research.
To support and inspire dental students around the globe to reach a higher level of knowledge and maximize their opportunities at the very start of their career, the Academy offers a very affordable student membership package with added benefits to encourage on-going participation. Student membership is offered to students or residents enrolled in dental school, medical school, pre-doctoral or post-doctoral advanced education programs.

Student membership dues are significantly lower than regular member fees with no application fee.
The membership fees are discounted by 50% for the first two years following graduation.
Other member benefits include:
- Full online access to the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants (JOMI)
- Substantially discounted registration fees to AO Annual Meetings throughout the period of the student membership and up to two years following graduation from dental school
- Full access to AO’s online Education Center, including complimentary access to the complete webinar program and archived conference sessions
- Complimentary access to DocMatter – the web-based, virtual community for clinical and practice management discussions and networking between members
Students and Young Clinicians make up a large segment of AO membership
After graduating and moving into clinical practice, student members advance into AO’s Active Member category. Young clinicians make up a substantial portion of AO members and come from a variety of backgrounds including oral surgery, prosthodontics, periodontics, and general practice. The Academy works with its Young Clinicians Committee (YCC) to raise awareness of AO programs that facilitate professional relationships and continuing education programming that can offer valuable insights into the building blocks of clinical and practice management success. The YCC provides a platform to bring together the knowledge of experienced practitioners with the enthusiasm of young clinicians to promote learning, problem solving, cutting-edge research and relationship-building events at Annual Meetings and other year-round events.
