The Academy of Osseointegration Annual Meeting has earned a reputation as one of the world’s premier educational events in implant dentistry. Each year, it brings together internationally recognized clinicians, researchers, educators and industry leaders to share scientific advances, innovative techniques and evidence-based approaches to patient care.
From March 10-13, 2027, the AO community will gather in San Diego, California, for another meeting focused on education, collaboration and connection among clinicians at every stage of their careers.
For dental students, residents, fellows and early-career practitioners, AO 2027 provides an opportunity to accelerate professional growth. Through programming developed by the Young Clinicians Committee, attendees can participate in educational sessions, hands-on training workshops, networking events, mentorship opportunities and leadership initiatives designed specifically for the next generation of implant clinicians.
Following its successful debut at the 2026 Annual Meeting, the Young Clinicians Hands-on Workshop returns in 2027. The workshop focuses on suturing and socket preservation — fundamental techniques for establishing healthy implant sites and achieving predictable regenerative outcomes.
This interactive course helps participants strengthen practical surgical skills, whether refining techniques learned during residency or gaining exposure to procedures not covered during formal training. It also provides dental students with an introduction to implant surgery and regenerative procedures while allowing them to explore future specialty pathways.
Young clinicians interested in academic dentistry and professional development are encouraged to participate in the Young Clinician Lecture competition. Selected presenters will have the opportunity to showcase their work during the Young Clinicians Luncheon on Friday, March 12.
The competition joins the AO Emerging Leaders Competition as one of the Academy’s premier platforms for early-career speakers. Presenting at the AO Annual Meeting provides valuable experience in scientific communication while increasing professional visibility within the international implant community.
Beyond scientific sessions, one of the greatest strengths of AO’s Annual Meeting is the opportunity to build meaningful professional relationships. The Young Clinicians Reception provides a welcoming environment where attendees can connect with colleagues from around the world while interacting with experienced clinicians eager to share knowledge, career advice and personal experiences.
Many of these conversations develop into collaborations, mentorships and lifelong professional relationships that extend well beyond the meeting.
The Academy’s commitment to fostering these connections continues through the Young Clinicians Committee’s expanding mentorship initiatives, which connect early-career members with experienced AO clinicians. These relationships promote clinical excellence while supporting professional development, leadership and collaboration across generations of implant dentists.
Whether attending their first AO meeting or returning as an active member of the Academy, young clinicians will find the 2027 meeting in San Diego to be an engaging educational experience. From scientific programming and hands-on education to mentorship, networking and leadership opportunities, the meeting offers valuable resources for clinicians looking to grow within implant dentistry.
Join us in San Diego and discover why the AO Annual Meeting continues to bring together the future of implant dentistry.
