AO Global Programs continue in Spain

More than 150 attended AO’s Charter Chapter meeting in November in Madrid, Spain, organizer Dr. Fernando Rojas-Vizcaya has reported. The outstanding program included AO board Member Dr. Lyndon Cooper who also gave an introductory presentation on the AO.
The success of the Spanish Charter Chapter was followed by a highly successful AO Indian Outreach Meeting in Pune, India, in late January. Outgoing AO President Dr. Joseph E. Gian-Grasso gave the keynote at the meeting, headed “Innovation and Practice in Modern Implant Therapy”. Other speakers included Global Program Development Committee Chair Dr. Michael R. Norton, Drs. Rojas-Vizcaya, Hugo De Bryun, Jocelyne Feine, Paresh R. Kale, Suvanna Nene, T.V. Padmanabhan, Georgios E. Romanos, Saphal M. Sherry and Dhirendra Srivastsava.
About 50 abstracts were submitted for the Indian meeting, and 20 were selected for competition. Three prize winners were selected: Original Research, Dr. Shuchi Tripathi; Case Series, Dr. Gurbani Kaur; and Case Report, Dr. Binita Srivastava. The three winners each received a complimentary one-year membership in AO.
Following the success of AO osseointegration Symposia within the 2013 FDI Annual World Dental Congress in Istanbul, Turkey, and the 2014 FDI Congress in New Delhi, India, AO will be doing another symposium at the 2015 FDI Congress in Bangkok, Thailand, on September 23. In keeping with the policy of selecting speakers who are AO members from the region, three Australasian speakers have been chosen:
- Sun-Jong Kim, DDS, MSD< PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Assistant Dean, Graduate School of Clinical Dentistry, Ewha Women's University, Seoul, South Korea;
- Takashi Sumi, DDS, PhD, Ichinomiya-City, Aichi, Japan;
- Terry Walton, BDS, MDSc, MS, Professor (Affiliate), Department of Prosthodontics
Faculty of Dentistry; University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia.
Dr. Walton will also serve as symposium moderator. Plans for a new outreach meeting in South Africa are underway.
